Anonymous asked: “why can’t everyonejust be proud of their race, if it’s black or white or asian or indian or anything else? or, not proud, but just happy to be it.”

ladyatheist:

Once again, FUCKING READ! This country is so goddamn whitewashed that there is absolutely NO FUCKING REASON a white person should be “proud” to be white. White people see representations of themselves (and very fucking positive ones at that) all the goddamn time! Turn on the tv and I’ll put money on the fact that the first face you see will be white. White people are portrayed as diverse, multifaceted, complex people while PoC are lucky if we’re even seen at all. Even if you do see a fucking PoC in the media somewhere, they’ve been shoehorned into some harmful, fucked up ass stereotype that WHITE PEOPLE invented to oppress and dehumanize us. This whole fucking country is built on white supremacy. That’s what our society operates off of. For a PoC, simply existing in this bullshit is a challenge. Succeeding in spite of what white society has thrown at us is something that we damn well will celebrate. So if we say that we’re proud to be a PoC, they are not being racist. We’re simply celebrating the fact that in this whitewashed ass society, we’ve lived to see another day. We’re reminding ourselves that blonde hair, blue eyes, and white skin isn’t the only form of beauty. We’re letting everyone know that we are more than the stereotypes and myths put out by white society. We’re saying that they are people and we deserve respect too.

I’m not gonna deal with the commentary below ‘cause I don’t wanna and I’m on my Bobby Brown. (Late 80s R&B reference—deal with it.)  I will say this though:
EVEN IF I were to accept the argument that people of color can be racist against whites (and to be absolutely clear, I do not under any circumstances accept this argument), thus conceding the premise that this type of racism occurs at all, the idea that this type of discrimination is so rampant, so damaging to white people is simply laughable.  Really?
Can you catch a cab in the city?  ’Cause I can’t.  Have you ever fit some vague description and stopped by police officers? ‘Cause I have.  Have you ever been denied housing because, upon meeting the landlord, magically someone else took the apartment not twenty minutes before you arrived?  ’Cause I have.  Ever heard stories of lynchings of distant relatives drunkenly whispered by aunts and uncles? ‘Cause I have.  Ever been denied services, ever had someone grip their bag a little tighter or turn their wedding ring when you’re in their presence or had people feel as if touching you without permission was wholly acceptable because you look “different.” Yes, yes, yes to all three.
This “what about me” pathology is so sickening.  How dare you compare being allegedly bullied by the one black girl in your school to more than four hundred years of race-based, systemic enslavement, under resourcing and intentional psychological trauma against people of color in this nation.  The temerity it takes to audaciously declare that your experience and history is in anyway similar or equitably damaging to those of POC is wholly representative of the high level of privilege you possess.  How dare you? And I’d seriously like an answer to that.  Please tell me how that equates?
You cannot have this, too.  Steal and appropriate our cultural artforms, gentrify our neighborhoods, lay claim to historic figures, whitewash us from the broader American culture and there is little we can do stop you.  But to lay claim to some false history of racism and disenfranchisement as a means of alleviating one’s self and one’s ancestors of the continued systems of racism and oppression against POC in this nation, is beyond the boundary of acceptable.
**steps off soapbox** I’m done.  May tumblr become my happy place again.

STFU

So you are either admitting you don’t know what racism is, or you have never heard of the Black Panthers, or the phrases “Black Power” or “White Devil”

“WAAH WAAH! We are considered the standard of human beauty! Our cultures and societies are the gauge by which all others are measured and deemed wanting! Despite a history of slavery, genocide, imperialism and cultural/intellectual theft, we still consider ourselves the most (the only?) civilised peoples on this planet! Southern societies exist for our delectation, and women of colour? Are they even people or what?
“…But being called a white devil is JUST AS BAD!”
—Racist whites

OP please stop and think why the black panthers existed. Look at the context behind it.

White people seem to think that the Black Panther party are just a big ol’ Black Klu Klux Klan, running ‘round, lynching white folks. It’s just depressing is what it is.

The KKK isn’t currently lynching people, all though it still exists, [and btw, the KKK lynched tons of white people too], they’re an occultist terrorist organization. The BPs hold the exact equivalent racist beliefs as the KKK. The BPs are screaming about how they’re “not lynching crackers, Yet, yet yet.” It should go without saying its the ideology that is EXACTLY the same, not the actions. the BPs aren’t wearing black pointy hoods for instance.
Black Liberation theology holds that pale skin literally makes one a devil. This is what these people believe. It is evil.

What…I..
It used to be called The Black Panther Party For Self Defense for a reason.

Where does it say “KILL ALL WHITE PEOPLE!”
Can I not read right?
???

Also, The KKK did not lynch white people because they were white. They would lynch them because they were Catholic , gay, or Jewish. NOT BECAUSE THEY WERE WHITE. POC were lynched FOR THE SOLE REASON of their race.

Really interesting how people keep perpetuating this idea that you can’t be racist against whites.
Erm. Let’s open up Webster shall we.
Racism: Noun- the hatred or intolerance of another race that is not your own.
Riiiiight sooooo….. Just what exactly were you saying?
It says nothing about a systematic oppression of a race. If you harbor hate for someone because they’re white because their ancestors did something that they cannot take back, you’re just as much a racist as the white person calling you a nigger, spick, dot head, what have you.

I was harassed in middle school by black girls all the time because I’m white, and had long blonde hair, and I still treat them 100% equally. So I agree with this completely. I’m frankly sick of how half my academic curriculum is designed to make ME feel like I’VE done something wrong, when I’ve been far more a victim of racism. :P

What the fuck does your “long blonde hair” have to do with anything.

I want a girl who will fight for me

farawaymylover:

Someone who isn’t afraid of sending another text if I don’t respond, calling me if she thinks something’s wrong, or telling me straight up how she really feels even when she’s unsure if it’s mutual. I want someone to genuinely give a shit about me and show me what it’s like to be treated right, for once. I guess that’s too much to ask for.

Hmm.

I kind of rolled my eyes at this
